FOSSE WAY PETITION
Our petition to improve safety at the village
entrance to the Fosse Way has borne fruit. We were unable to have the speed
limit reduced to 50mph, since this “would not comply with the County
Council’s Speed Management Strategy”.
However, the following significant measures will be
taken:
1.
The erroneous “Road Narrows” signs will be replaced by improved
“Junction Warning” signs.
2.
A flashing “Slow Down” vehicle activated sign will be erected on the
Moreton side of the hill.
3.
Red surfacing and “Slow” markings on the road to both the north and
south of the junction.
4.
Extension of the solid white to the north of the junction to prevent
late overtaking close to the junction.
5.
A “High Risk Crash Route” sign will be erected at the south county
boundary.
These changes/improvements will form part of the
Casualty Reduction Scheme and Speed Limit Review for the Fosse Way.
Time scale is as yet unknown.
·
The Play Area
is in need of its annual spruce up, as is the area round the village hall.
Please come along and give a hand on Sunday 27th April from
3pm.
Bring a rake for the bark in the play area, secateurs and shears will come
in handy too. It will be great to have the area looking good for May Day –
the 4th May..
·
Parish Plan: Many villages in the area have done a parish plan (e.g. Ilmington) in
recent years. Many of you will remember the Stretton Parish Appraisal
published in 1999. This is the successor to these appraisals. Its scope can
be as wide or narrow as the village wants – for example it could cover
housing needs, transport, village hall use, planning, social events etc,
etc. The parish council would obtain funding for it but the idea
is not that the PC should conduct it but that a committee of interested
villagers would (with perhaps one parish councillor included). Wendy Temple
(Lexdens, Tel: ) is happy to organise. If you are interested in helping in a
major or minor way- or if you are just interested in what the Parish Plan
might involve, we are holding an open and informal meeting on Sunday 8th
June at 8pm in the
Village Hall. Coming along
to see what is going on, will not commit you to anything! We will remind the
village of the meeting nearer the date.
·
Speed Limit Update:
Our petition to lower the
speed limit on the stretch of the Fosse Way past the entrance to Stretton
raised an impressive 171 signatures; 111 from the village, and 60 from
regular visitors. This was presented to an Area Committee Meeting held in
Elizabeth House, Stratford on Wednesday 19th March. We were given a 3 minute slot to
make our case. Though it was sympathetically received, and the Committee
were alerted to our concerns, we cannot be sure if we were successful or
not. The matter is still very much on-going: we will hear at a later date,
and will of course keep you informed. Keep an eye on the parish council
notice-board and the village web-site (strettononfosse.co.uk)
·
Allotments:
A second request for any land available adjacent to the village which could
be lent/donated/put in trust/ bought for use as allotments
·
Reminder that there is a WCC Home Woodchipping Service
(subsidised) – see noticeboard or phone 01926 738827.
·
Remember we have a data
projector and a large screen, and a camcorder available for use in
the village e.g. to record village events. Contact any member of the parish
council.
·
